We have very exciting news. AIC–Automotive Intelligence Center continues to grow with its fifth expansion in 20 years. This initiative, supported by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia through an investment of €37 million, will enable the development of a new Advanced Mobility District concept (Distrito AIC), adding 21,900 m² of new space, including Innovation Units for companies, Experimentation Centers (Smart Mobility, Data Space Lab, Advanced Charging Systems, Intelligent and Heavy-Duty Vehicles) and collaborative spaces.
Distrito AIC has been conceived as an evolution of the AIC model, where new automotive and advanced mobility activities are designed and developed. It will incorporate complementary working areas that enrich the current ecosystem and provide a comprehensive approach to the key fields shaping the future of mobility, including Intelligent and Heavy-Duty Vehicles, Charging Infrastructure, Data Spaces, Software-Defined Vehicles, Mobility as a Service and Circular Economy.
In addition, Distrito AIC leverages existing local and international capabilities to develop its own real-world advanced mobility laboratory system. This model will support the testing and deployment of an active network of Launchers structured as distributed livinglabs nodes, accelerating the development, testing and validation of innovative solutions in real environments and at different scales.
The ultimate goal is to expand AIC’s capacity to generate value across multiple sectors and levels, with a territorial approach that connects industry, knowledge centers and people within an open innovation ecosystem focused on advanced mobility.
